Instructions for Upgrading to Cablecast 5.2.9, 5.3.4 and 5.4.2

Before You Begin

The first step in updating your Cablecast system is to compile a list of all the machines in your system to ensure that no machines are missed. The easiest way to see all of the machines in your system is to navigate to the Servers screen in Cablecast (On older systems this is the same as the Control Module Hosts screen). The Servers screen can be accessed from the Main Menu by clicking System Settings -> Servers.

The Servers screen listed above will show all of the system in your Cablecast system. All of these machines must be updated.

Removing Old Software

The first step in upgrading your Cablecast system is to remove any previous versions of Cablecast. Since this update requires a driver update we will also need to remove previous versions of Matrox DSX.Utils. To remove the previous versions navigate to Add Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel. Here you will need to remove any versions of 

  • Cablecast
  • Cablecast Control Modules
  • Cablecast Video Overlay
  • Matrox DSK.Utils

Right click any of the programs listed above and choose Uninstall. Follow any reboot prompts indicated by any of the un-installers.

Upgrading Drivers - SX Servers Only

After previous versions of the software have been uninstalled the next step is to upgrade the drivers on SX Servers. Please note this step only needs to be done on SX2, SX4, SXLE, SX2HD and SX2HD-LE. ProVOD, Pro, Cabecast Live, and SXLive servers do not require this step.

 
SX Live Servers do not need SX Server drivers

Despite the confusing name, the SX Live streaming server does not need SX Server drivers. The drivers are for the Matrox video IO card present in SX Video servers. The SX Live streaming server does not use these IO cards and therefore does not require the driver update.

To install the drivers unzip the 9.2.3.2392 - DSX.utils.zip file downloaded with your Cablecast updates. Inside the there is an INSTALL.BAT, double click this file to begin installation. Choose next for each option to install the updated drivers.

Once the SX Server drivers have been installed you can run the Cablecast installer by double clicking it to install Cablecast on all of your systems. Click Next to choose the default install options. Once the installer completes Cablecast has been updated to the latest version.
