How to perform a system database migration

ATTENTION:

DOING A DATABASE MIGRATION INCORRECTLY COULD POTENTIALLY DELETE AND REMOVE ALL OF THE RECORDS FOR YOUR SYSTEM

Description

When moving to a new system or adding new machines to a system, you may have to perform a database migration. The database holds all of your user information, system configuration data, show record data, and carousel data. BE SURE TO HAVE SUFFICIENT DATABASE BACKUPS STORED IN A SAFE PLACE BEFORE PERFORMING A DATABASE MIGRATION.

Process

1. Stop all Cablecast and Carousel services that are running on the machine you are updating.

2. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and stop the service.

3. Open SQL Server Management Studio Express. When the connect to server window opens, click connect.

4. Expand the Databases folder on the left and locate the Cablecast40, Carousel50, and Frontdoor50 database folders. Right click on the database you wish to replace and select delete.

5. Be sure to check the "Close Existing Connections" box in the delete object screen.

6. When you have all the databases you are replacing deleted, right click on the main Databases folder and select Restore Database.

7. Choose From Device in the Restore Database screen then locate and add the database you are restoring.

8. Click the restore check box for the database you just added. In the "To database" dropdown menu, be sure to select the exact database you are restoring.

9. Select options. Then click the check box for "Overwrite the existing database." Also be sure that the file path for the new database matches the path of the database you are replacing.  Click OK

10. Repeat steps 5 thru 8 to migrate the remaining databases.

11. Restart your Cablecast and Carousel services and you are all done.

Additional Information

If you are replacing the current database with a database that is running an older version of software, you will need to run scripts to update fields and data.

1. In SQL Server Management Studio, Select File then open. Locate the scripts  under C: or D: > TRMS> Database > Scripts. Some Databases will require you to create first and then populate. Select the appropriate script and click Open.

2. When the script is loaded, make sure the correct database is selected that you want to perform the script on.

3. Execute the script by clicking the check mark at the top. SQL Server will prompt you when the script is finished.

4. Repeat for all the databases.
