How do I use custom icons for my weather bulletin?

Applies to

  • Carousel 6.3.0+

Answer

Using custom weather icons is something that can be completed with just a few minutes time and access to your Carousel server. The icon files need to be named with all of the conditions Carousel supports. Not the condition code, but the following list of conditions with a .png or .jpg extension as appropriate :

Clouds
Cold
Flood
Fog
Haze
Hot
Hurricane
Moon
Mostly Cloudy
Mostly Sunny
Partly Cloudy
Partly Sunny
Rain
Sleet
Snow
Sun
Thunder
Tornado
Unknown
Wind

Place the custom weather icons within the \TRMS\Web\Carousel\ directory, such as in D:\TRMS\Web\Carousel\Media\Dynamic\Weather\CustomIcons. When creating the weather bulletin, reference the custom icons within the web picture blocks using a URL such as: http://192.168.1.100/Carousel/Media/Dynamic/Weather/CustomIcons/#Currently#.png

Additional Information

We're using the existing Carousel web server to host our custom weather icons, and referencing them with a publicly available URL in the web picture block of a weather bulletin.

If you're wanting to replace the #Currently# place-holder for 5-day weather bulletins use #Forecast0Description#, #Forecast1Description#, etc.
