DVD Import

DVD Import is a tool written as an open source project by one of the developers at TRMS. This tool removes the digital file from a DVD to be imported and played on Cablecast video servers.

The DVD import tool does nothing to the file that is on the disk. If the file that was burned to DVD is an unsupported file the tool will NOT correct the file so that it will play on a video server. If the file is not in a supported format you will need to move it into an edit suite and correct the problem with the file before importing it for playback.

The DVD import tool can be found on Labs.trms.com. This is where all of the open source code from TRMS is hosted.

The DVD import tool was released wot work with Windows XP and we have seen a greater number of problems with it on newer operating systems. As this is open source we do not plan to make changes to it to update it to work with newer OS's. There are many free applications  available on the web that will do this for you. Handbrake is a common one we see used.

Usage

To use DVDImport insert a DVD into your computer. The title and program chains for each title are displayed. You can click on each program chain, and click the 'Import' button. Now you will be prompted to save the file and importing will begin.

You can adjust the audio options for importing. Changing the "Level" will change the volume of the transcoded audio. You can also normalize or compress the audio level. If you have a problem with AV Sync on the imported MPEG2, you can use the "Sync" slider to adjustthe offset. This is a trail and error process.

Click the "Options" button to change the configuration of DVDImport. You can change where DVDImport stores it tempory files. It needs tmp storage when it is transcoding and muxing. You can also select "Lagacy" Audio Processing mode if you are having troubles importing a DVD.
